Hush Hush Records proudly welcomes Tokyo-based musician Soloi Sounds, the ambient project of Yosuke Goto, to the label to help present his latest release and Hush Hush debut, ‘Mistrace.’ The EP follows releases on Yann Novak’s imprint, Dragon’s Eye Recordings, as well as his steady output on Dionisaf’s label, Chitra Records.A self-taught musician with an unorthodox approach to music theory, Soloi Sounds’ environmental ambient music carries an air of mystery and unpredictability. This imperfect and organic human touch shines throughout the five songs on ‘Mistrace’ with each song gradually unfolding and wandering in askew fashion.Utilizing a shimmering Roland synthesizer, a Taishōgoto (aka Nagoya harp), toy piano, and field recordings, Soloi Sounds delicately builds sparkling melodies that weave and overlap over washes of ambient waves and intricate IDM-tinted glitches. At times these layers connect, at times they diverge, producing accidental fluctuations. The interplay between these airy, uncertain melodies and a consistently shifting foundation gives these songs an out-of-focus allure that creates a series of intriguing happy accidents, and ultimately led to the title of the release, ‘Mistrace.’With its atypical song structures, humanistic touch, and accumulation of small mistakes, ‘Mistrace’ offers an antidote to the constant stream of passive ambient music overflowing our contemporary music market. There’s a lovely oddness to what Soloi Sounds has created here, and Hush Hush is honored to welcome him to the family with this brief and beguiling EP.
