Kino Benally is Diné from the Navajo Nation. He is a musician, DJ, and producer that currently creates music under the name DJ Béeso. The connection between DJ Béeso and Hush Hush Records begins a couple years before the label was launched. Kino was living in Seattle and making music under the deceptively named moniker Kimnusico Trio. A burned CD of Kimnusico Trio’s early demos were dropped off at KEXP, a Seattle independent radio station where Hush Hush founder Alex Ruder moonlights as a DJ, and these songs quickly captured Ruder’s attention. Eager radio debuts were made, tracks were passed on to respected music friends and label runners, resulting in the early and brief emergence of Kimnusico Trio.
Five years later, Kino has since moved out of Seattle, spent considerable time in Brazil, and now resides back near his hometown in Colorado. His new alias is DJ Béeso, a project where he hopes to create music that is both sophisticated and intentional while still keeping aesthetics from dance music in the forefront.
